Digital Imaging
Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) and photogrammetry are a couple of clever techniques that can be used to reveal hidden details on worn stones, including gravestones (as well as for a myriad of other things!), allowing inscriptions to be read and recorded.
The software required for RTI is freely downloadable. You'll need RTI Builder and RTIViewer from:
